GETTING INTO FILMMAKING
In my early life I tried painting, music, sculpture and acting, but I was hungry for something that could give me the power to create an entire world based on my vision and concepts.
By the age of 18, I was on my sixth month studying in the UK when I realized that I wanted to become a filmmaker. Getting into film school was not an option so I started my career in communication studies back in my town.
The journey to become a filmmaker in a place far from the film industry has been a challenge, but also, has been crucial in creating my own voice as a filmmaker.
I began as a freelancer in commercial and industrial video production in order to finance my own film projects.
I founded Alcayata Films in 2011, a film production company dedicated to independent and guerrilla style films. Since then, I have worked as a director, cinematographer, producer and editor of films, short films and music videos.
FILM DIRECTOR & CINEMATOGRAPHER
As a film director I can describe myself as a challenge driven person, open to proposals from others as long as they commit to the project goal.
Also as a filmmaker I enjoy working with any crew size, and I love to work abroad with people and talent from other places, after all, I have experienced that no matter where you come from or under what circumstances you work, filmmaking has it’s own universal language.
As a cinematographer, I embrace a deep dialogue with the director in order to understand his vision and build the visual storytelling of the project.
My experience in independent and guerrilla style films has let me developed a problem solving workflow and a quick to adapt attitude in any situation.
MEET THE DALLAKS
About Susan & Max Dallak
My grandma used to talk to me about her mom, Susan Dallak. She left the Czech Republic in the early 1900’s and moved to New York. Susan spoke 7 languages and was a great chef, she was known for making great meals with whatever she had in front of her, just like an experienced editor should do with any film so I decided to dedicate my work as an editor to her by signing my work under her name.
My grandma also introduced me into literature by letting me read piles of books as a kid, so Max Dallak was born as my pen name.
